My husband and I visit Big Sur at least once a year, and we always dine at the Sierra Mar restaurant at Post Ranch Inn. Why? Not only because of the excellent cuisine but also because is it perfectly perched on the edge of the cliffs of Big Sur, California. Sierra Mar at Post Ranch Inn boasts the most stunning views of the California coastline which is unmistakably spectacular!

Interior:

The décor is done brilliantly to emphasize the views. The sleek woods and interior design are meant to be the backdrop to the windows that frame the Big Sur coastline. Every seat in the restaurant is designed so that patrons can maximize the benefits of the coastline scenery.

Menu:

The dishes and flavors are artfully crafted using local ingredients and often reflect the fertile coastline of California and the nearby mountains. The cuisine at the Sierra Mar Post Ranch Inn is an expression of the bountiful Chef’s Garden located on the property. I appreciated the thoughtful pairing of excellent wines with each entree as well.

Views:

The restaurant’s vantage point is impressive. I have dined in a number of restaurants along the Big Sur coast, and Sierra Mar offers the best views unequivocally.

There have been times that we have enjoyed the very best weather…but other times the weather has not cooperated. Please know that it is best always to check the weather and if the views are of high importance to your enjoyment of this dining experience, that you will want to reschedule your reservation for the optimum day. Check the weather app on your phone that morning to make sure that you maximize your experience.

Location:

You can easily miss the entrance while traveling on Highway 1. The signage for Post Ranch Inn is small. The restaurant is situated on top of the hill above the Post Ranch Inn. Park your car at the check-in desk with the valet at reception. You will need to enter the lobby area, and there is a wooden outdoor path and stairs that you will climb to get to the restaurant. If you have difficulty with the climb, they have golf carts that can drive you up the hill to the restaurant entrance.

For the best experience, I would recommend getting a reservation well in advance of dining here. Be sure to request a table right up against the glass windows. The very best table is the “corner glass table”!!  Fantastic food and amazing views, you can’t go wrong!

I would strongly suggest coming during lunch or at sunset to maximize the most amazing views. The restaurant is extremely popular and hotel guest get priority seating so if you time it just right, there can be availability during the early lunch or late lunchtimes. For sunset…get there early and extend your dining experience.

The dining experience is always so exceptional that I know that this will be memorable for you!. I have been going to Sierra Mar for years, and every time I can feel the excitement about being able to dine here.
