Before You Go to Lapland Finland – Information You Need to Know!

Always5Star Before You Go To Lapland Finland Title

Before you plan your trip to Lapland, Finland there are essential
5StarTips🌟
you will need to know before you even begin your travels.

5StarTips🌟:

Language:

The official language of Finland is Finnish. I was a little nervous that there would be a language barrier, but for all of us English speakers, you’ll be pleased to know that most everyone we encountered in Finland spoke a little, if not a lot, of English. Impressive!

English signs were easy to find everywhere.

Driving:

Finland, like in the United States and Canada, you drive on the right side of the road.

Driving is similar to the US

Currency:

Finland’s currency is the Euro. Most of the businesses take credit cards. Brittany and I found that we could use our credit card/debit card most of the time. Before our trip, we went to our bank* and exchanged currency so that we had $300 in euros between us for this trip. But now, looking back at it, it was too much. I would say that $200 would have been more than enough for what we planned.

5StarTip🌟: Some banks have a complimentary exchange of international currency. Please be sure to contact your bank in advance to see if they are providing this service. Schedule enough time to order the money and receive it before you travel.

Power Plugs:

The power plugs and sockets in Finland are of type F. The standard voltage is 230 V, with 50 Hz as normal.

5StarTip🌟: You will need to bring a converter if you are traveling from the US.

Safety:

It is Finland that excels here! Finland is deemed extremely safe. We unintentionally confirmed this when we made the mistake of leaving a backpack on a bench outside our hotel’s lobby, with our wallets and passports in it. We noticed it was missing and frantically found it later, and it was completely intact with all our possessions. Several people told us that this is the norm. But, always be aware of your safety, and please be careful no matter where you are!

Water:

There is no need to buy bottled water as you can refill your own bottle from the tap. Finland’s water is some of the safest in the world!

Clothes:

For Winter in Finland, your focus should be lots of layers! Did I say lots and lots of layers? In fact, I think we would get our morning and evening workouts by just putting on and taking off our clothes.  For us Southern California gals, this was all new to us. No kidding!Image

Grateful we had the right clothes with us!

Brittany and I did a lot of research on what to pack for our trip to Finland. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to make the investment in time to find the right clothes (especially during the winter). It can make or break your enjoyment for this fantastic destination.  Gratefully, the clothes we chose were perfect and we want to share what we learned.
